Not much has been discovered about the volcano Erebus yet!
Antarctica

The strato volcano Erebus (3800 meter altitude) has an active lava lake in its crater since many years. Any field work would be a challenge on this volcano because of its tought climate. Datas about volcanic gas, tremors, lava samples and acoustics could be taken. But first the logistic has to be safe and experienced.

Logistic base to discover for potentional projects:

- Getting a lava sample from Erebus

- Getting a gas sample from the lava lake

- tremor data record

- acoustic digital taping of the activity

Abstract:

Mt. Erebus is the most southern active volcano and one of the most difficult one to reach. This is mainly because of its location in the remoted Antarctica and because of the difficult weather conditions during most of the year. The summit of Mt. Erebus is 3794 meter and inside a 600 m width and 200 m deep crater, a rumbeling lava lake has been maybe since decades
The biggest antactic station is the american McMurdo "town" with more than 10.000 tourist per summer. Mt. Erebus is is not far away to McMurdo and New Zealands Scott station. The german Gondwana station is about 100 km west of Erebus.

Introduction:

How does any scientific work goes on Mt. Erebus?
We would like to find out with a small research team. This knowledge will be provided afterwords to make more jobs (expedition) easier on this remoted volcano Mt. Erebus.
