Ich habe eine Antwort von Jennfier Jay (Cornell University) in Bezug auf die magmatische Aktivität am bolivianischen Vulkan Uturuncu erhalten. Die Wissenschaftlerin rechnet kurzfristig nicht mit einem Supervulkanausbruch, denkt aber, dass es sich tatsächlich um eine Magmaintrusion handelt. Hier ein Zitat:
„I’m glad that Uturuncu has been getting some attention in the media, but I don’t want to make people think that Uturuncu is about to erupt! We think that the deformation of Uturuncu is caused by magma emplacement in the mid-crust, but whether or not this magma will ever be erupted is another question that we are trying to answer. From the data that we have collected so far, we see no evidence for a supervolcanic eruption in the near future.“
